Types of Ketogenic Diets

The general goal of the Keto diet is to put the body in a Ketosis metabolic state . There are a number of ways in which ketosis can be brought about and therefore there are a number of different types of ketogenic diets which are similar in terms of being low in carbohydrate and high in dietary fat.  1.       Standard Ketogenic Diet (SKD) This is a very-low carb, moderate protein and high fat diet. It typically contains 70 to 75 per cent fat, 20 per cent protein, and about 5 to 10 per cent carbs. The Ketogenic Diet

A Ketogenic diet refers to a diet that is designed to bring about ketosis, the breaking down of body fat into ketones, and allow the body to largely run on ketones rather than glucose. It is a low carbohydrate, high fat and adequate protein meal plan. It is also known as the 'keto' diet, for short.

Studies have shown that the Keto diet has many health benefits against lifestyle diseases such as cancer, diabetes, epilepsy and Alzheimer's disease. Keto also helps control weight and generally improve health.  This is a simple diet only requires one to change simple aspects of their meals instead of going on fasts that may otherwise end up being detrimental for their health.

The Keto diet focuses on reduction of intake of carbohydrates and replacing it with fats as an alternative source of energy. This is with the intention that the human body going into a ketosis metabolic state. Ketosis enables the body to switch from breaking down blood sugars to burning body fats.

When the body burns fats, it produces ketones in the liver which serve as an alternative source of energy. Ketones are better sources of energy as compared to carbs since they reduce appetite, oxidative stress, increase cardio-protection hence reduce the risk of suffering heart attacks and deprive cancer cells hence they are unable to spread, reducing the risk of getting cancer.
